If you’re reading this, you’re probably familiar with at least some of our work.  

There’s a lot that we do day-to-day that you may not know about. We regularly get calls—several per week—from groups and leaders across the country who need help fighting the latest proposal to sell off a water system, turn over public school funds to for-profit companies, or undermine public control over public goods and services. It’s our responsibility to help—and we do. 

We also get calls from partners to help lift up how public institutions can expand access to essential public goods. We help there too.  

Since my book, The Privatization of Everything, was released in November 2021, I’ve done 105 book talks (on site and on Zoom), podcasts, radio interviews, and webinars. Organizations, unions, and policy makers are using the book to educate their members and allies. 

After all that, I’ve come to the conclusion—again—that organizations and leaders in cities and states across the country need more help. They need resources to hire organizers and researchers, and more to give them the tools and the talent to win. 

So here’s my fundraising pitch: If you know of a group organizing people to take action, to expand democracy, to maintain public control over public goods in your city or state that needs more resources, donate to them this year. 

If not, then feel free to donate to In the Public Interest, and we’ll put it to good use supporting local groups. Your donation will pay travel costs for us to visit, our time and expertise, our research capacity, and our organizing capabilities, to help them succeed.

In the Public Interest is in it for the long haul. And that means we need to do everything we can to help build pro-public capacity and movements in every city and state.
