What a year it’s been.
The momentum for privatization of public goods that started in the 1980s took off like wildfire in 2025. This was a year filled with threats and promises of privatization, backed by a cabal of billionaires pushing policies that meet their narrow interests over any sense of shared national interest.
In the Public Interest has worked with groups and policymakers across the country, including Minnesota, Florida, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Connecticut, fighting the privatization of our schools, water systems, prisons, social services, parks, and more. Our work has never been more urgently needed than now, and we’d like to ask for your support to help keep this work going.
Your donations will help us conduct and publish research, share new resources, and provide assistance to advocates and lawmakers working to push back on privatization and protect public services. This coming year, we’ll help cities and states resist pressure from recent federal legislation to privatize critical health and safety net programs. We’ll also continue our fights against school voucher programs and water privatization threats. And we will shed light on how procurement can be a powerful tool in ensuring that artificial intelligence doesn’t undermine public goods and services. These are just a few examples of the important work we will undertake in 2026.
Every tax-deductible donation to In the Public Interest, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference in our ability to protect and strengthen the public good. Your support will ensure that we can continue to work for a more just, equitable, and democratic society.
